I am trying to adapt to the idea of no cable, but I'm loving the access to my music collection in my living room. I have my computer speakers hooked into my mac mini, and I have the Remote app on my iPod touch so that I can control my music from anywhere. Now I just have to work on getting the music more organized.

There seem to be enough ways to access enough tv (especially if I get netflix through my wii) that I can keep myself entertained without the expense of cable. I'm 2-3 seasons behind on a bunch of shows that I could watch instead of counting on the current seasons, and I can get glee and others that I really want to see now via hulu or aggregators like plexapp.com that I'm finding out about. there is also apparently an HD antenna now that helps you pick up local channels... so much to learn.

The HD antenna helps. Without it, I only got 2 or 3 channels. With it I get about 40. Now... about 30 of those aren't really worth watching. But it's not too bad. I'm finding I don't really miss cable much at all. Netflix and computer and whatever Tivo grabs for me keep me pretty occupied!

ok, so tivo can record if all you have is the antenna? that's good to know.

Yup. I got my HD antenna at Target for about $25. That's on top of the converter box... but it's been worth it. We had to mess around with TiVo a while to get it to work, but we did and it was just fine. Only PITA is that you have to reprogram all your season passes.

With our last move I got rid of cable. It has been 7 months today. I don't miss it at all. And my tv addicted wife told me last nite that she didn't miss it either.

We tried the whole antennea/converter box thing for pbs and local stations.. but living in a big city meant we got bupkis. so we let it go. We have used hulu maybe 4 times since April 1.

I will admit tho. netflix has been a big help. and we have watched our dvds we had set aside. so it isn't like we are nuns or something. Just that we read more than we watch anymore.
