My birthday approacheth, so here I start to compile the list. Y'all don't have to read the list, but I'm putting it here 'cause this is where I store stuff, especially when everything else in my world is getting put into boxes. And, you never know, maybe some of you are curious.

Date: 2005-08-12 09:28 pm (UTC)What KIND of Bathrobe, size? Style? Fabric? (Sheesh can you tell I'm a virgo too?)
What SIZE bed? What color scheme? What is htc to you? (800 is to me)
Real simple...sigh...I adore that magazine.
Grown up clothes...well...I just spent a bundle at forever 21 to reduce the amount of grown up I have in my closet!! LOL

Queen size bed with deep pocket sheets. The highest I have is 400 sateen, which is pretty nice, but the higher the better, I figure.

Date: 2005-08-17 05:21 am (UTC)Here is the deal with ACTIVE noise cancellation... it's really only effective against constant consistent noises such as air plane engine noise, road noise in a car, or train rumble... sharp short transient sounds like children screaming are too fast and have too varied of a frequency content for the circuitry to react in a timely enough fashion to cancel the noise. They are still effective in reducing the intensity of said noise, but they don't completely cancel it.
Another issue that really only matters for audiophiles is that the mixing circuitry that the phones use is not perfect. Basically what its doing is recording the exterior noise with a microphone (Or phones) somewhere on the headset itself, then reversing the polarity of the recorded sound and mixing it into the incoming audio source to your headphones (ipod or whatever). The result is that it cancels out most of the amplitude of the unwanted noise--however it IS inducing distortion into the original signal, which to an audiophile is simply unacceptable. No mixing amplifier is perfect, and the phase cancellation between the recorded noise signal and the actual noise signal is not perfect either, so you wind up with some residual sound that shouldn't be there.
So my personal take on the issue is that getting a good pair of CLOSED, full ear headphones (that completely enclose the ear) is just as effective at noise prevention, and yields a higher quality overall listening experience.
I saw a lot of sony MDR-V500's in my time at the recording department at columbia, and while i can't personally vouch for them (i have v700's) they recieved high praise from some of my engineer friends.
here is a nifty froogle link: http://froogle.google.com/froogle?hl=en&lr=&tab=ff&oi=froogler&q=sony+mdr-v600&btnG=Search+Froogle
as always, try them if you can before you buy them--i know larger best buys let you demo headphones and its well worth it to see if they are comfortable for you and have the weight and fit that you want.
