people in boxes

I win! I was the first person to be at work in the department this morning. I don't think that this wins me anything in particular, though.
Coming to work, I felt guilty toting my Starbucks past the UMBC-run Jazzman's Cafe. There is no reason for such guilt, especially since their espresso beverages are about the same price, and not as uniformly tasty. I then walked by a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser that involves students sleeping in boxes outside of my building. I wish that the space in front of this building wasn't the one area on campus sanctioned for such events. There are people jump roping, or see sawing, or living in boxes at least twice a month, and I refuse to give money to see sawing sorority girls. There was a cute queer-seeming boy in a hat and a pink blanket at the Habitat table this morning, and I did give him all of the change that was rattling around in my bag.
I requested this consultant guy's free report on how to start an espresso based business. It was painfully redundant. I emailed him back with the eight or so typos (and one awkward sentence construction) that I found. I want to charge him my grammatical and editorial consultation.
I have been at work for an hour now, and I must say, yahoo's launchcast radio is a wonderful thing. I'm even considering paying the $36 to have my own, personalized, commercial free radio station for the next year. I have noticed that I rate everything somewhere between 10 and 30, or 70 and 90. Not much in the middle.
I keep paring down my friendslist. It feels overwhelming, except for the times when I'm really bored, and then it feels too limited.

Date: 2005-04-05 04:58 pm (UTC)The kids in boxes kinda creep me out when I've walked by them (as I will be in about 15 minutes or so). It does seem as if there are better ways to solicit money. What ever happened to bake sales?
Random Observation
Date: 2005-04-05 05:01 pm (UTC)This is not meant to be taken negatively or anything, but your post seems very grandmotherly ... the nice old detached lady who kind of floats above it all ... which is only fair, on a college campus. I went back by LPHS a few years back and Tookey gestured an arm out to her class of tiny people. I asked if they were Freshmen. No, they are Seniors! But ... they're so tiny and child-like!
Well, and MY Grandmother has been an admin at UChicago since the dawn of the atomic age.
Happy Tuesday,
-danny
