This weekend felt like a quintessential "stuff I do" sort of weekend.

On Friday, we went for a 10ish mile run/bike ride after work. We were on the Charles River Reservation trail thingie, and kinda kept going until Tim knew where he was, which was Watertown Square. It was a much longer trip than I'd expected. We rewarded ourselves with pizza, fries and beer, and then played Scrabble. Also dropped most of the mixCD challenge packages into the mail. Still a few to get out this week...

Saturday, Tim finished his dissertation! It is now complete and in draft form for his advisor to rip apart so the boy can do more work. Sweet. He doesn't know what he does with himself when not dissertating. It has been a long time. Perhaps he will learn more Scrabble words. I dyed wool in the morning 'cause the weather was cool and I could leave a pot on the stove for an hour -- now I have something to spin again. We had a simple dinner of zucchini latke-type thingies with yogurt, then went to Barnes and Noble. We meant to play Scrabble there, but forgot the tile racks, and I refused to play with my letters in my hand. He found a Terry Goodkind book, theorizing that when not writing his dissertation, he used to read and stuff. I picked up a million books and put them back because I have a ridiculous number on my to-read list. Went to Whole Foods on the way home and bought randomness, incuding a cookie that I'd finished by the time we got to the check out line. Also decided that I will earn a doctorate in American Studies and write a dissertation about millenial/gen-x Scrabble communities post-Word Freak. Home, Scrabble, including one game with six bingos (three each). Yay!

Sunday, we ate coconut/pineapple waffles for breakfast. I spun and played with Scrabble words. We biked/ran about seven miles. Tim read his book (he is done now - I wish I could read that fast). We went to Cambridge and I got my hairs cut and drank bubble tea. We picked up our veggies at our farm share, including 10 pounds of tomatoes. We had grilled swordfish with citrus pesto, wild rice, and green beans for dinner. I stayed up too late manipulating word lists. I need to go back to getting the words I know engrained in my head rather than playing with new ones.

And now, work!

I'm thinking about taking this show over to vox.com, but haven't decided yet, so I'll just doublepost for awhile until I do, I guess...

I've been doing a lot of spinning recently, prepping for craft fairs, and the weather finally broke, so I threw some dyeing in there as well. You'll have to excuse the lame composite picture, which I threw together with my graphics program, which I don't know how to use. I've had fun experimenting with various fibers recently -- the middle left is a silk/merino, and the bottom left is some random fiber I bought at NH Sheep and Wool. I'm always glad to return to merino, though, and everything else in that picture is merino. The green is from Dharia at skeintily clad, who lent me roving to spin at the Lowell Folk Fest. The jewel tone roving at top and middle right is what I'm working on right now -- dyed by steaming in a saran wrap packet on the stovetop, which is my favorite way to do 4oz packets of roving. I think it'll become hat kits. The bottom right is way prettier than that photo makes it look. Must work on photo and photo shopping skills.

conehead conehead

I forgot to mention this recent entertainment. Cassie did something to her foot such that there's a hole in it. We were good dog owners and took her to the vet, who said to leave the cone on until it was fairly well healed, and soak it in epsom salts. We are good dog owners in following the vet's directions. We are bad dog owners in laughing at our no-depth-perception-dog as it tries to get around the furniture, through the dog door, etc. She always looks upset in pictures, and this one is especially attractive.
