On Saturday, we finished the porch, minus the door (which will be the hard part). Built frames for two and a half walls, stapled on the screen, attached the porch to the roof of our patio and the concrete ledge, and it hasn't fallen down in the rain and the wind yet. We'll work on the door a couple of weeks from now. We have a bird that we'll be evicting from its nest, which makes me a little sad, but it doesn't have any eggs in its nest, and I've asked the resident bird expert in my department who thinks it'll be okay, so I can't feel too guilty about it.
On Sunday, we picked up eggs, smoked mozzarella and apples at Farmer's (real market starts next week - yay!), and then went to a brunch buffet at the golf course restaurant on UMD's campus. I got a discount for being staff, but it still ended up being $25ish after tax and tip. To make up for the price, we made sure to eat as much food as humanly possible (yay all you can eat) which included fondue, waffles, omelets, ham, prime rib, hash browns, scrambled eggs, pastries, sweet potatoes, cheese and crackers, fruit salad, and about 6 different desserts. It was the only meal I ate yesterday, I was so full for the rest of the day. Not the healthiest way to eat, for sure, but yum.
It's raining outside. It's a very blah day on campus. Advising started up today. I have 65 twenty minute appointments this week, which is 22ish hours' worth, which is a lot. I have many flaky advisees, though, who forget their appointments and don't show up, which is why I still have time to write here. Tim's mom arrives bright and early tomorrow, which means I should probably clean the guest room a bit after getting home from Scrabble tonight.
At least I have my radio show to look forward to. I bought another of those silly Starbucks CD compilations this morning, in a fit of spending. I feel vaguely silly buying Starbucks-produced music, but it has good stuff -- Rosie Thomas, Jem, Rachel Yamagata, Sarah Harmer, Joss Stone...) -- I will do some cdbaby shopping this month, though, now that I'm back to being able to purchase things online.
