I'm going to Good Fortune in Wheaton for dim sum tomorrow unless someone has another recommendation that isn't too far from College Park and is both carnivore and vegetarian friendly.
Good Fortune
2646 University Blvd
Wheaton, MD 20902
301-929-8818
Cavernous, noisy and populated with multigenerational Chinese-American families, Good Fortune may look familiar, but it's a far cry from the gloppy chop suey palaces of yore. Be prepared for a delicious surprise: Hong Kong-style fare served up with elegance and style at reasonable prices.
A consistent winner of local awards for "Best Chinese Food" and "Best Bargain," Good Fortune's mammoth menu offers more than 200 items. Amazingly, all are done well, whether you choose seafood, meat, poultry or vegetarian dishes. Whole steamed rockfish is a succulent treat, as is Duck with Eight Treasures. Vegetarians go for dishes like eggplant, tofu and black bean sauce. Sauteed rice noodles with shredded pork and pickled cabbage, bronzed squab in soy sauce and exceptional stir-fried gray sole are innovative taste pleasers.
If it's weekend dim sum you're after, Good Fortune has carts overflowing with bounty, including dumplings, spareribs, buns and more. You can have a more sedate dim sum experience from the menu on weekdays. Better still, let your server guide you to a medley of dishes to share -- and take home the dividends. -- Tracey E. Meloni
