any civil engineers out there?

okay, so say we have to build a platform that will be 16" from the ground, and about 110 sq. inches (the size of a piece of plywood, in fact). Now, we have to put a set of risers on top, that has 6 feet that it stands on, and then about 12 choir members on top of that, for a total of about a ton of weight. The platform needs to be moveable, and able to be transported, in whatever form it takes, in/on a Subaru Forester. Does it seem reasonable to put the piece of plywood that will be the base of the platform on top of 8 piles of 3 cinder blocks each, set up as pyramids (2 cinder blocks with 1 on top, laid crosswise)? That way, the weight is distributed across 8 points of contact (the top cinder blocks), plus a little bit distibuted across the piece of plywood.
To me, it sounds way too likely that everyone will crush the cinder blocks, crash through and die, but I have no scientific evidence to back my theory, so I thought I'd see if anyone in livejournal land could help.
