free food day
Dec. 1st, 2005 09:11 amYesterday, I went out to lunch at Bertucci's with a coworker. I had a cup of soup with sausage and spinach, and we split a pizza with caramelized onions and fresh mozzarella, which was really tasty for food from a chain restaurant. In my second piece, I bit down on a piece of metal, which turned out to be a staple or some similar thing. Manager apologized profusely, lunch was free.
For dinner, the girl came to visit, and we ordered Thai food. They were making me a coconut bubble tea smoothie (I FOUND BUBBLE TEA IN WALTHAM!) and then realized they were out of bubbles. I pouted a bit and settled for a Thai Tea. They ended up giving me my bubble-less smoothie for free.
I'm coming down with whatever illness is going around at work. Sigh. It keeps me from writing more interesting things than this.

You're a dynamic, charismatic person who's possibly headed for fame. You tend to charm strangers easily. And you usually can get what you want from them. Verbally talented, you tend to persuade people with your speaking and writing. You are affectionate and loving, but it's hard for you to commit to any one relationship. Your strength: Your charm Your weakness: Your extreme manipulation tactics Your power color: Indigo Your power symbol: Four leaf clover Your power month: December |
The BBC asked people to vote for the top 50 things everyone should try a bite of in their lifetime. Bold the ones you've tried.
1. Fresh fish
2. Lobster
3. Steak
4. Thai food
5. Chinese food ( Read more... )
I'm curious what the American list would look like.
Went to see Wallace and Gromit tonight, figuring not too many kids should be inhabiting the theater. There were still a few, but quite the wonderful movie. Bunnies? Not as cute at the sheep.
I am almost done spinning some consignment yarn. I keep spinning in the morning wearing my work clothes, and then realizing how much fiber I'm wearing once I get to work. I guess I should just spin in pants that complement my current yarn in progress.
Also, google is all dressed up for Halloween.

Sep. 20th, 2005 05:57 pm- business cards: I collect them. They are like crack. They are free and pretty and unique. And then they sit in boxes in my house for years and years. This year, I started a journal in which I can paste ephemera like this. It barely holds together, it's so crammed full of stuff. I hope to have it full to the gills by the end of the year, and start a new one for '06.
- comfy chairs: How can you go wrong with comfy chairs?! I like them deep and plush, where you sit far back and your feet don't touch the floor and you can curl yourself up into them with a cup of cocoa and a sudoku.
- espresso beverages: I'm especially fond of the turtle mocha from Caribou, and there used to be a Coffee People right where I caught the bus as a camp counselor, and they give you chocolate covered beans with your mocha in the morning. Mmm.
- his dark materials: This series caught my interest. There aren't that many fantasy worlds that pull me in so well. I think I like the parallels to our current world. Plus, the reading is quick, and full of beautiful imagery and plot twistiness and such. I hope the movies serve the series well.
- just being: An integral part of my week. I get way too anxious if I don't have some time to just be on a regular basis.
- math geeks: Mmm, sexy math geeks.
- open ended questions: There's this one person I knew who always asked closed-ended questions, and I get frustrated by them. I've trained myself to ask open questions, that allow someone to fill in lots of thinking and details. I recognize that this person was asking closed questions hoping to get open answers, but I get stubborn sometimes, and would just provide the requisite 'yes' or 'no' -- made for some rather stilted conversation.
- sexuality: It's just one of those important things in life that should be explored and understood, and whose boundaries should be tested and stretched, with others and on one's own.
- su|do|ku: Mmm, puzzles.
- wallyball: It's my favorite sport -- volleyball in a racquetball court, where you can bank the ball off the walls and never have to run very far to fetch it when someone misses. Grand fun.

Sep. 17th, 2005 03:17 pm1. Your LiveJournal user name and what it means: kismet09 is a combination of my username and my subscription number on the first seven-line ddial bbs system ever (Jokertown, c. 1994), where i first became addicted to the internet. the name 'kismet' meant nothing at the time -- i'm not even sure i had a good handle on what it meant, but as i brainstormed for handles, it showed up in my brain, and i've used it ever since.
2. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how well does your LiveJournal represent who you actually are? Sixish? Of course, a lot of the me is in posts that have been filtered, so not so many of you would know all the different pieces that end up here.
3. How much about your life do you post to LJ? I try to use it mostly to help me remember important events, interactions, and emotions. I get quite a lot of it down.( Read more... )

Aug. 18th, 2005 10:27 amDirections for the meme:
Go to musicoutfitters and put your birth year into the search blicky. The first link is likely the top 100 songs of that year. Cut and paste that list here. Bold the ones you actually like. Understand that the word "like" in this case means, in the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from." Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite.

60 of my favorite movies
May. 26th, 2005 12:41 pmSo after that movie meme, I decided to try to come up with the top 100 favorite movies. I've dnoe this before. I never get to 100. So, for now, here are 60 that are favorites in the context of when I watched them. I might not like them as much if I watched them today, but at the time, they were just what I wanted them to be: ( Read more... )
..., but since there are now so many, that doesn't seem like that many. Also, I almost alphabetized them, but I really am trying to do work today.
1. Take this list and post it into your own LJ, and mark the movies you've seen (in bold).
2. Add five more movies to the end of the list.
3. Count how many you have seen. If you've seen more than 70 movies, you are a Movie Whore. Post the score of how many movies you've seen in the subject line.
4. Use a LJ-cut since you've got at least one LJ-friend who doesn't really want to see an ungodly number of movies snaking its way down the computer monitor (now at 321).
5. (optional) Question your friend's taste in movies (cuz you can).

May. 23rd, 2005 09:14 amOver a month ago,
breezeek tagged me with this meme, and I kept forgetting about it while I was at home, where all of my music lives (I mostly read along from work). But, now I'm home late-ish, and I remembered, for a change.

03b). Song playing right now:

Nov. 29th, 2004 06:01 pm( You are Verin Mathwin! You seem to have your head in the clouds, but really you are a clever manipulator who is clearly focused on what you want in life -- quiz results within ) or I just don't remember the character. I suppose it's been 8 years since I read those books.
Today, I had many students accuse me of not telling them about their advising -- either that I didn't let them know who their advisor was, or even that they had to be advised. These were all sophomores. Take some responsibility for your life, people - you've been doing this for a year now.
14 minutes, then off to Scrabble.

birth month meme
Nov. 11th, 2003 09:48 amChoose your birth month, strike out what doesn't apply to you (I've also bolded what I think is most salient in my personality, but that wasn't part of the meme):
SEPTEMBER:
Suave and compromising. Careful, cautious and organized. Likes to point out people's mistakes. Likes to criticize. Stubborn. Quiet but able to talk well. Calm and cool. Kind and sympathetic. Concerned and detailed. Loyal but not always honest. Does work well. Very confident. Sensitive. Thinking generous. Good memory. Clever and knowledgeable. Loves to look for information. Must control oneself when criticizing. Able to motivate oneself. Understanding. Fun to be around. Secretive. Loves sports, leisure and traveling. Hardly shows emotions. Tends to bottle up feelings. Very choosy, especially in relationships. Systematic.
Won my first Scrabble game by >220, lost my second two for a total of -230. Two steps forward, three steps back. Am currently sorting through piles of transcripts, trying to read my friends list, listening to live radio feed through Windows Media Player, which I like less than live365, and counting down my last 13 minutes til the advising starts again. 17 signed up for today. Sigh.
