ah, sick days. I've taken three this year so far, which is probably a lot to most people, but I'm all for not working all the time, and I see no reason to hoard vacation days, especially since I'm only going to be here for three years. Am curious whether [livejournal.com profile] dreamattack329 decided to go in to work after all.

Today's to do list )

Reasons why I'm cranky about the office holiday party:
-all email reminders about it have been in red text with a green background
-requests to make cds with Christmas music
-ornament contest
-tree and Xmas stuff in main office, with nothing of other holidays/wintery stuff
-requirement that we pay $5 and bring something, and guests pay $12 (which i got changed by being righteously cranky) when we're an academic department with considerably more money than Academic Services, who is hosting a catered brunch and not making us pay anything.

If you're going to have a Christmas party, then have a Christmas party. If you're going to have a pre-winter break party, then stop dressing it up like a Christmas party. And if you're going to basically require that I attend, don't make me pay $17 and bring food. Grr. So now we're paying $10 and bringing two dishes, which I still don't think makes it right, and I'm trying to find some non-Xmas songs that are wintry. Luckily, I made a winter mix last year, so I can just use that, mostly. Sigh. I'd list the songs, but that'd be way too many lists for one entry.

In other news, I bought "Knitting for Dummies" so I could give it to a friend, but started reading it and liked it so much that I'm keeping it as a reference book and giving her my Debbie Bliss workbook, which is glossier anyway. I'm also going to give her lessons after break, so probably no real need to give her any books, but it makes a pretty present. That, and Buffy trading cards :)

Time to face the world...
Many days I think I should write what I've done in here, and then I haven't managed to do so. I toyed with the idea of backdating and adding some entries, and may still do so, but that's too much to worry about right now, and I don't want that standing in the way of writing *something* so I stay in the habit.

Real life has been too busy to write. Tim's brother and his girlfriend stayed with us for a week, and his parents were in town as well, staying at an aunt's, which meant a lot of entertaining. Not that I'm complaining, since it also meant a lot of free food at the good chinese place, and at Gordon Biersch (mmm garlic fries), and, of course, that whole Thanksgiving thing. They came in last Saturday, and it was quite a lovely arrangement really. Get taken out, hang out for a few hours, and then we got to send the parents away to another house. Much better arrangement that way, and no worrying about scandalizing the houseguests (especially since they showered together, not even concerned that their older brother and his wife were home/in the next room).

Thanksgiving was lovely - not the over-the-top-ness of my family's T-day, which generally included a turkey, crown roast of pork, and roast beef. We had all the usual stuff, plus Tim and I baked brie for appetizers, baked fresh cranberry walnut yeasted bread, and made the rather cliche but still tasty chex mix. I ate home made pecan pie leftovers for two days. Yum...

and now, back to advising, and rehearsing for Messiah (which is this weekend! eek!), and a new season of (reruns of) Buffy on F/X which I haven't seen, just when UPN went back to reruns. speaking of, must get upstairs and set the vcr...
