Sunday was spent in multiple locations, each of them helping to improve my satisfaction with the weekend.

We were up bright and early to accompany Tim into Cambridge, where we started with espresso beverages at 1369 Coffeehouse, and then took the bus a few blocks down the boring part of Mass Ave, then walking another few blocks down to the Harvard Bookstore and Bob Slate Stationers, where we spent quality time with the browsing and small purchases. I found a used copy of the Tassajara Bread Book to replace our old copy, which was left by a certain someone on a chair in the rain in the backyard. I also discovered a book called The Good Fairies of New York, by Martin Millar. As the description reads, the book tells the fish-out-of-water story of two Scottish thistle fairies who find themselves in Manhattan. The fairies hook up with two humans, Kerry (complete with colostomy bag) and Dinnie (antisocial in the extreme), finding time to help both get their acts together. A book that brings together race riots and Scottish folklore, The Good Fairies of New York is anything but a typical fairy fantasy. Something about it was intriguing. I added it to my amazon wish list.

After a few good hours, including burgers for H* and corned beef hash (a once a year indulgence) for me, and bubble tea, Tim picked us up and we headed out to NH, watching the pretty autumn trees until we both fell asleep and the boy got us safely to our next destination, which was the Redhook Brewery tour. For $1 each, we got to snarl at frat boys while on a tour of the brewery, and then drink much free sample beer in our take home souvenir glasses. The tour would've been better were it not UNH homecoming, but what can you do.

From there, it was off to an apple orchard, where we picked some of the last apples of the season, and also got to pet a pig, two ponies, and three goats, the latter of which were particularly thrilled with [livejournal.com profile] sharkycharming's airline pretzels. We sat in a hayride truck while Tim was lost for a bit, looking at the pretty trees.

Once we found him, we all set out for Portsmouth, a quick 15 minute drive from the orchard. We left Tim in a bar where he drank twelve very small beers, and did a little more shopping (I found a couple of great ornaments, and an advent calendar with monkeys!). There's a popover place in Portsmouth that I must try next time I'm there, but I was saving my appetite for sushi. Dinner was nice, and I had a view of the sushi bar, which is entertaining. I ate just about the right amount, for a change (eel-cucumber roll, inari, tamago, a couple pieces of a tuna roll, a bit of salmon teriyaki, and a sweet potato tempura), and didn't feel like I had to roll out of the restaurant.

Home again, and almost directly to bed! It was a lot of walking for two days, and we wanted to be up early for brunch.
