Autumn Songs

I have a lot of songs that I associate with Summer and Winter, but less so for Spring and Fall. What are some of your favorite fall songs?

I will start collecting some via the internet... most of these I don't have, but they sound like stuff I'd like

gregory and the hawk - Season Poem: "One by one/ The days fall beside us/ Like yellow leaves"
Fiona Apple - Pale September: "Pale september, I wore the time like a dress that year / The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin"
Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater: "We could slip away, wouldn't that be better / Me with nothing to say, and you in your autumn sweater"
Red House Painters - Brown Eyes: "I see the pain in those brown eyes / Fires burn in autumn skies"
Patrick Wolf - Teignmouth: "So when the birds fly south / We'll reach up and hold their tails / Pull up and out of here / And bridle the autumn gales"
Devendra Banhart - Autumn's Child: ""Sing your song / Autumn's child"
Iron & Wine - Naked As We Came: "Birds are leaving over Autumn's ending / One of us will die inside these arms"
Tori Amos - Gold Dust: "Letting names hang in the air / What color hair (auburn crimson) / Autumn knowingly stared"

I'm staring at a deadline for a handbook that I really need to get to the printers today. Argh.

When summers beginning to give up her fight"

REM's Find the River (off the Automatic for the People album) is a wonderful fall-like song.

That plating in your icon looks like a spider to me...not quite disturbing, but very close.

How about this? Does this make you hungry? :)

mm... will have to see if I have that REM album in my stash somewhere...

September by Earth, Wind & Fire

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

I once tried to make a mix of all September songs (since it's my birthday month) and have no idea where it went. I will have to go hunting for it.

songs and albums about journeying always feel fall to me. also, i have a couple albums that i associate with listening to in the fall:
1. through the bitter frost and snow is a collection of fall and winter folk songs done by susan mckeown and lindsay horner that i always start listening to at equinox. (esp. the song "bold orion")
2. carbon leaf's indian summer feels fall-y to me
3. tori amos's whole scarlett's walk is a fall album in my book
4. for whatever reason, the soundtrack to garden state feels fall to me

also, there's this poem by rainer maria rilke that, if anyone has set to music, would be a fabulous fall song.

i agree with Garden State and have to listen more closely to Scarlett's Walk. I don't have the whole Carbon Leaf album, and I've heard of that first one (maybe from you!) but I don't think I have it...

I know it's a little played out...

But the song "Trouble" by Coldplay has always sounded like Fall to me, ever since the first time I heard it. In fact, that was the way I once described it... "the quintessential Fall song."

sweet baby james

and

when fall comes to new england (cheryl wheeler) actually, most of the driving home cd feels fall-like to me.

my supervisor was just telling me about the Cheryl Wheeler album, which is even more funny to me since she used to work at Holyoke!

two that immediately spring to mind

Leaves That Are Green - Simon & Garfunkle
A Summer Song - Chad & Jeremy (despite the title, definitely a fall song)

I think a bunch of S&G songs would probably fall into the Fall-feeling category. I don't think I have the C&J in my repertoire.
