My return to club play
Aug. 25th, 2005 09:41 pmI have found myself a pretty good club that keeps all kinds of wacky statistics about their play, and is well established with lots of players, so that's good. They also don't pair people up by ability, which is kinda cool. As it turned out, the three people I played today were all around my level, or maybe a little below, since I managed to win all three even though I feel pretty rusty. My first game, I played a phoney that I didn't know was a phoney (JIAOS* - apparently it doesn't take an S), but found enough bingos and such to get myself to 399. Second game, the end game worked in my favor, and, partly thanks to my opponent, I won again and broke 400. In each of those, we split the blanks. In my third game, again my opponent helped me out, so even though he drew both blanks and had the only bingo in the game, I still managed to win with 370. 3-0 with a per game average of 392ish isn't too shabby. My bingos were RAVINEs and SALTiNE (very boring). I also had VERSION with hooks to an A, E, L, and R, and completely missed AVERSION. Oh well.
Okay, enough geekiness. It's practically 10, which means off to bed and to read the summer reading book (Yellow, by Don Lee).
