campus service and pretty colors
Mar. 6th, 2005 05:58 pmSpent Friday at home, almost finished writing the proposal that I have volunteered myself to write. 9 pages single spaced at 11 point font (these things still matter to me -- font size and the like) with another 15 or so of appendices. It felt kinda good, though, to write something that had a point and may actually affect my life and the wellbeing of my students. The body is still less than 5000 words, though. That's disappointing. Maybe I'll make a few more points.
On Saturday, I spent a few hours volunteering on campus as an interviewer for a scholarship program. Ah, fresh, young minds. Even though some of the questions we had to ask were pretty dumb, I still enjoyed watching them think and form thoughts. Saturday night, Tim and I went to my sorority's chapter installation dinner celebration. As an advisor for science majors, my students tapped me to sign off on paperwork for Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies. I'm sure that if I were on campus more, I'd be a more active advisor, but they seem happy enough, and I trust the women in charge, and I'll probably leave before or as they leave, so all is fine with that. It was a lovely dinner, and I've never seen so many undergrads so eager to start dancing after dinner. It had been a long day, so we snuck away rather than stay for dancing.
I also purchased a pair of ballet flats at payless for the occasion. The 12s are too big for me. First pants that were too big, and now shoes. I don't know what's going on.
All day today has been another dyefest. My eyes hurt a little, which is troublesome -- hoping I didn't infect them with too many noxious chemicals.
