I had a fabulous Scrabble (day and) night last night! First, I have many e-scrabble games going, and they are all helping me get through the work day.

More importantly, last night was the Scrabble holiday party, which meant food, games, and year end prizes. We were matched up with the player with the closest per game point average and played two games, and prizes were given away based on those games. There were also prizes for guessing the average of the averages in the club (i.e., take everyone's average points per game, and divide by the total number of players), and for other various accomplishments.

I managed to win both of my games against Randy, who I couldn't beat to save my soul at this time last year. I found a number of bingos, including NUTRIAS, and (B)EATIfIC, and also played YANKS from the bottom left hand TWS, to hook it to COATI, for 59 points, which also got challenged and was good, so I was able to play out. I scored somewhere in the 420s and 460s, I think. I then played two games against Jim, another of the players I couldn't beat ever last year, and won both of those games. In one, I didn't even bingo or draw any blanks -- I just kept up, and the second blank came out late in the game. In the other, I bingoed to the TWS on the first turn, finding ELICiTE(D) through his GRANDER (also a bingo -- it's always fun to start a game with two bingos), and later also played GRoUPIN(G). Toward the end, I played SHAKER on the bottom middle TWS, parallel to YEAST (with the -ER under the YE-) for 46, and then drew the other Y, to hook PAYS to YEAST (making YEASTY) for 48. Sweet. Those games were in the 400s as well, I think, and I won each by a close margin -- somewhere in the 20s.

In terms of prizes, I guessed the average average (my guess was 333, 'cause I liked the 3s, and the average was 335), and won a set of alphabet bookends. I love bookends. As year end prizes, I was given recognition as a member of the "Century Club" for playing more than 100 games over the course of the year, and won Scrabble notecards (which some of you may receive as holiday cards), and I had the largest spread in a single game (which I won by 302 or so), and earned a copy of The Oxford Dilemma Board Game. Not a bad haul. I must bestow something nice upon my club director.
