Feb. 18th, 2003

Day four of being homebound by what the news is now calling the Storm of 2003. We did get the car unburied yesterday, and Tim went to the store for orange juice, fruit, and other foods I was craving. I cooked up my pot pie and stew, both of which were quite good considering my never having cooked them from recipe before, and now I have good stuff in both freezer and fridge.

I finally got started on some Artist Trading Cards - I did the bases with maps and other travel-related ephemera, and then I plan to layer some song lyrics over them. I'm hoping I can convince my printer to print on tracing paper, because that looks tranlucent layered over collage, but I've never tried before, so we'll see what happens.

I hope to finish up the afghan today - way ahead of schedule, since the baby won't be coming til August. I suppose I should get back to my sweater after that, but the yarn isn't really inspiring me - it's a heavy wool, and it's pretty itchy, so I'm not even sure I'll want to wear the sweater once it's complete, if it's ever complete. I suppose that's okay, since mostly it's an experiment to show myself that I can actually knit a sweater. Maybe I'll send it to [livejournal.com profile] janellie, since she doesn't mind scratchy sweaters.
Okay, so now we're up to a five day weekend and I'm running out of movies to watch. Made it to Michael's to buy some more cheap wool-blend yarn today, so maybe I'll experiment with cables or something to amuse myself tomorrow. I should really clean up the craft room, but I can't find a good organizational system, and it's getting frustrating. I just keep piling things, and then make a mess, and repile them... I need to either start making more collages, or give away a bunch of my collage materials, because they're taking over my life. I did finally use some of it to make some ATCs... travel theme, with collage layered under tracing paper, on to which I printed some song lyrics. I never think my Artist Trading Cards are that exciting, but I do think that I use reasonably unique techniques to get them to where they are. I may make some more with little origami figures on them again soon.

Tomorrow night I have a dinner party. Very exciting. We're hosting at our house, with Tim's running partners and their significant-other-types. We even washed the tablecloth and vacuumed the house. Vacuuming required taking the vacuum apart and getting all the dog hair that was jammed into the hose out of the hose. Knitting needles came in very handy in excavating said dog hair.

So yes, barely leaving the house leaves me with very little amusing stuff to write. Soon, though, I'll start getting delirious and then the entries will get ever so much more amusing. Or something. Oh yeah, and if the mailperson doesn't deliver the mail tomorrow, I think I shall cry. I've gone three days without mail, and nervouspeople start hitting withdrawal right about now.
I'm trying to find a copy of "The Ethical Slut" for a friend of mine, so I went to look for it on powells.com in the used book section. I got to type "slut" as the keyword, and check the box for "used only." heh.
