Thanks to the Atlantic City tournament, I jumped from 1121 to 1269, which puts me comfortably within the aspiring intermediate category. Many tourneys use 1200 as a cut off for divisions, which means that unless I study more than I want to, I'll be losing a lot until my rating gets low enough to put me back in the novice division. My new board, however, is jinxed. I have now lost 3 of 3 games on it. At least it's pretty and coordinated, with its purple board, tiles, racks, tile bag.

I found out that I actually have a task with a deadline coming up -- the Faculty Annual Report is apparently also for Associate Staff! I think this is the first deadline-oriented project I'll have at UMBC.

I started reading 'How to Study in College' by Walter Pauk yesterday, mostly to see if the things that I tell students are in line with what they're being told by 'experts' (i.e., people who can get books published on the subject). Turns out I am. That's vaguely comforting.

[livejournal.com profile] saintlex and I are going to have a craft booth at the Berwyn Heights Day craft fair -- if anyone has any knitting that they'd like to commission, let me know. I won't charge you anything - I'd just be happy to have extra inventory to display. Now I just have to find an interesting way to display it. I have until May, so I'm not in much of a hurry.

C'est tout, pour maintenant. I have piles of papers on my desk. Everyone loves forms in triplicate.
