who likes lateral thinking?

if anyone can solve this for me, i'll give you a cookie:

29A + x = 29D
AB + 2 = AD
5 + 7 = y
A + 1 = B
x + y = ???

And it isn't a whole number from 1 to 150.

I have plugged in about 5 separate sets of numbers that make all those statements true. Is this considered algebra? I've forgotten how to do it!

There are too many variables to do algebra.. everything I do still leaves me with 2 variables in the equation.

you already know I'm no help, but I'm still thinking about it.

x + y = -17

A = -1
B = 0
D = -2
x = -29
y = 12

Lemme know if you want to know specifically how I got it.
