yarn stash

I'm trying to document all of the yarn in my world right now, to get an idea of what I have, what I don't need, what patterns to look for, etc., at the fiber fest this weekend. It really isn't all that bad. I don't have as many odd, random balls as I thought that I did -- most everything I bought with a vague idea of a project in mind. Unfortunately, most of the time that was "oh, this would be a great shawl" or "I can't pass up this color, and there's enough of it that I'm sure I'll find a good use for it." I have at least three sweaters' worth, plus some arm warmer projects in mind, and a pair of socks and a tank top on the needles that I just have to get moving on.

Like this Schaefer yarn. It's just so pretty, really lofts, 100% merino. And I have 1100 yards of it, and it's fairly thick, so I probably have enough for a sweater, or for a shawl, or whatever I want to do with it. But then, I can never find the pattern that's just right. Plus, my sweaters? I never want to wear them once they're done. And variegated yarn can be a pain and a half in terms of how the colors line themselves up or don't. Plus, this yarn would make a supremely bright cardigan, and I tend to wear mostly darks, muted colors and neutrals. I still don't have a hat/gloves/scarf combo, so maybe that's what this should become.

Anyway, I am babbling. This is what happens when I have two large mugs of coffee, and I don't have to go to work and I have no one to talk to (and I spend half an hour photographing yarn). You can check out some of the rest of my yarn stash here -- I've only made it through the commercially-spun wools, plus the two side projects. That makes 1 large and 1 small tupperware. I have two large and one small to go. It may get a little scary by the end.

That's really pretty- I love the blue and green together. But yes- the variegated yarn could look strange if it lined up all wonky.
Are you feeling any better?

i'm feeling mostly better, thank goodness, but i can tell i'm at that stage where i could easily overdo it and end up in bed for another week, so i'm treading lightly. thanks for asking!

ooh, that is lovely stuff. I have some Schaefer Anne that I'll find a project for one day (I decided I didn't like the Pooling Scarf and I already have an enormous backlog of sock yarn).

I've decided that I'm basically not allowed to buy small amounts of yarn at Rhinebeck - unless I have a specific small project in mind (and no "it'll make a nice scarf") - my stash is so full of 2 skeins of this or a single skein of that. If I'm going to spend the money (and I am), I'd rather get a sweater's worth of yarn.

Of course, watch me break this rule incessantly all weekend.
