Everyone out here signs their emails "best," or "best regards," -- I have never seen this before being on the east coast. I tend to use "take care," or "sincerely." One of my old bosses used "bye for now," which I just thought was silly. I'm not sure what I think of "best" -- it just doesn't feel like me. How do you all sign your emails in semi-formal correspondence?

I always try to think of something better.
Somehow, "sincerely" always seems insincere to me!

I frequently use "Best"... or "Thank you" or "Many Thanks"... ummm on rare occasions I've been known to use just "Regards"... but "Best" is among my most frequently used.

To other folks? I like to go with "xo - Libby" :)

I work with someone who signs 'peace and grace' and it always pisses me off for some reason!

I usually say "Thanks" or "Hope this helps" depending on whether I am the help-ee or the help-er. Or just nothing at all.

I've been using email for twenty years now and have never seen the need for a closing. I mean, other than a line break, a dash, and my name. And, I mean, when I didn't want to use "Love," which I usually don't even when I'm talking to someone that I love.

I just pulled down my Miss Manners, and she says that one falls back on "yours very truly" for general business correspondence, "yours faithfully" when writing to an unknown buisinessperson, and "sincerely yours" for personal correspondence. But I trust that she is speaking of letters here and not email, and I hate to ask her about tech ettiquette because I've been here longer than she has.

"Best"? Ugh, it sounds like they took the last paragraph of the body of the letter ("Give my regards to Jill and the kids. We really should all get together again sometime soon!") and boiled it down to a single friendly-sounding but vapid word. I am trying to keep from rolling my eyes and thinking of this as typical West Coast behavior, but it is too much for me. :)

I tend to go with "Take care," most of the time-- Sometimes I use "Thanks much," but I'm in California and we can be more casual here. :)

Same here. The one I really have a problem with is "cheers." And even though it has been hijacked from Britain, I believe, I work with Brits now and I NEVER see them use it. So, it annoys me even more to see Americans use it. However, plenty of people I respect and love use it, I just will never. We are at work people, I'm not making a toast with you! Sheesh. And "best" makes no sense to me. Best what?

I worked for Amazon.com briefly in the e-mail customer service area, and the only acceptable ending (yes, real people do actually answer your questions) was "best regards". Personally, I always struggle with how to end mine. Sometimes it just seems better to not have one. In personal stuff I'll often end with "Take care" or just "-- Velvet".
