salutations

Everyone out here signs their emails "best," or "best regards," -- I have never seen this before being on the east coast. I tend to use "take care," or "sincerely." One of my old bosses used "bye for now," which I just thought was silly. I'm not sure what I think of "best" -- it just doesn't feel like me. How do you all sign your emails in semi-formal correspondence?

I've been using email for twenty years now and have never seen the need for a closing. I mean, other than a line break, a dash, and my name. And, I mean, when I didn't want to use "Love," which I usually don't even when I'm talking to someone that I love.

I just pulled down my Miss Manners, and she says that one falls back on "yours very truly" for general business correspondence, "yours faithfully" when writing to an unknown buisinessperson, and "sincerely yours" for personal correspondence. But I trust that she is speaking of letters here and not email, and I hate to ask her about tech ettiquette because I've been here longer than she has.

"Best"? Ugh, it sounds like they took the last paragraph of the body of the letter ("Give my regards to Jill and the kids. We really should all get together again sometime soon!") and boiled it down to a single friendly-sounding but vapid word. I am trying to keep from rolling my eyes and thinking of this as typical West Coast behavior, but it is too much for me. :)
